If you\u2019ve gotten a filling recently, you may be familiar with the tooth-colored composite resin that\u2019s often used to repair cavities nowadays. This substance works almost like a spackle, placed directly into areas of decay and cured into place with a specialized light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As it turns out, a similar resin is used in cosmetic dentistry to patch up areas of damage. This process is known by many names\u2014direct bonding, composite bonding, and cosmetic bonding being just a few.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fixing Chips & Cracks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are some types of trauma to the teeth that need to be remedied immediately, but for mild chips or cracks, you may go years without having to repair the damage. That said, if you aren\u2019t a fan of how a chipped tooth makes you look, cosmetic bonding can be used to patch one up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Connecting Gapped Teeth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some people can wind up with gaps in their smile as a result of having lost teeth, but for the most part, people who deal with this issue have had this problem for a long time. Your dentist can layer the composite resin directly over your teeth to subtly reshape them, connecting two incisors that may ordinarily not touch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Covering Discoloration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Teeth whitening is an incredibly popular cosmetic dental treatment, capable of dissolving stains that have set into the enamel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, many people have discoloration too severe for whitening alone. Others can see their teeth start to yellow for reasons unrelated to stains, like aging or certain medications. For these people, cosmetic bonding can cover up their teeth, hiding the color of their teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
