Planmeca Crowns in a Day in Ponte Vedra Beach
Recent years have brought terrific technological advances to dentistry. One of the most promising and fruitful has been CAD/CAM technology. Ponte Vedra Complete Dentistry is proud to offer Planmeca CAD/CAM technology to the residents of Ponte Vedra Beach and the surrounding communities.
What is CAD/CAM?
CAD is a term referring to computer aided design. It is the utilization of computers for creating, modifying, or analyzing design. Meanwhile, CAM refers to using software to control machines in the creation and manufacture of workpieces. How is this related to dentistry? CAD/CAM can be used in general dentistry and prosthodontics for the design and manufacture of different dental products, including but not limited to crowns, veneers, bridges, and dentures.
What is Planmeca?
Planmeca is a chairside CAD/CAM system that can produce same day crowns, veneers, inlays, and onlays. In certain circumstances, this technology allows the dentist to eliminate the need for impressions. A digitally scanned impression is transferred into the CAD/CAM system. From there, Dr. Harth or Dr. Townsend are able to create the exact specifications of your restoration. The restoration is then milled in the office.
Why Use CAD/CAM?
This technology provides many benefits. First, the need for traditional impressions is eliminated. Second, patients are able to receive treatment in one day. Without this technology, the dentist will prepare the tooth or teeth, take an impression of the preparation to be sent off to the laboratory, and then create a temporary restoration for esthetics and function. Once the lab has fabricated the final restoration, the patient then comes back to the office for delivery. Planmeca will eliminate these steps.
