You’re tired of the stains, discoloration, chips, and cracks plaguing your smile, so you schedule an appointment to see your cosmetic dentist. After discussing your options, you decide that veneers in Ponte Vedra Beach are the right solution for you. However, as you learn what you can and can’t do while wearing these custom restorations, you may begin to wonder if enjoying your morning cup of joe will be possible. A local dentist explains what you can do to minimize your chances of staining while continuing to enjoy the benefits of veneers.

Can You Drink Coffee with Veneers in Ponte Vedra Beach?

Ideally, the answer is that you should not; however, your dentist likely understands that forgoing that morning cup may not be feasible right away. The truth is that your customized veneers are more stain-resistant than traditional tooth enamel. Because they’re not porous, dark-colored pigments cannot penetrate like they would on regular teeth.

However, just because it is harder to develop discoloration doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Over time, depending on how much you consume, your veneers can begin to take on a darker shade. This can essentially, negate the efforts made to improve the look of your smile.

It’s also important to remember that before you ever receive your final veneers, you’ll be required to wear temporary ones. It is during this phase that you should avoid dark-colored beverages altogether simply because they do stain more easily.

Ways to Keep Veneers Bright and Beautiful

If you’re not quite ready to give up your morning jolt of caffeine, there are a few things you can do to minimize the effects of the potential staining and keep your teeth looking brighter. Some of these include:

  • Drinking your coffee through a straw. This will reduce the amount of contact between your teeth and the liquid you’re consuming.
  • Maintain optimal oral hygiene throughout the day. Not only should you brush in the morning but also at night before bed.
  • Rinse your mouth with water after consuming coffee or any other dark-colored food or beverage. If possible, try to brush your teeth if you can.
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your salivary glands working properly to flush out any bacteria.
  • Quit smoking.

Should your veneers lose their beautiful sheen, you may need to have them replaced sooner than you might expect. But if you follow these impactful tips, you can enjoy your new smile without giving up all your favorite things.
