Are you afraid of the dentist? If so you are not alone. Many people are afraid of the dentist and unfortunately that makes many people avoid the dentist. The major outcome of this is that they do not receive the care they should get and end up spending much more money as well as much more time in the dental chair later on. Many of our older patients tell stories about dental visits in years past where there was no anesthetic given, the dentist did not seem to care about their comfort, or one of many other reasons they are now afraid of dental visits.

All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth – Some Funny and Interesting Dental Facts

The holidays are here.  It is a time when many children are dreaming of sugar plums and presents under the tree.  Written in 1944 by Donald Gardner, the lyrics of the song “All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth” are about a child who would like to speak clearly and whistle but cannot due to missing teeth. He was a 2nd grade teacher that asked the students what they wanted for Christmas. He noticed that almost all of the children answered with a lisp due to at least one missing front tooth.

How to Teach Your Children Proper Oral Health Habits

At Ponte Vedra Complete Dentistry, we are dedicated to educating the residents of Ponte Vedra, Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Nocatee, and Palm Valley not only with excellent dental care but also with oral health education.

Did you know that most adults have never been educated on the proper methods to brushing and flossing? Several months back we posted a blog that detailed exactly how to properly brush. Why has that education never been provided?  First, it was not until the 1940’s that Charles C. Bass began to study brushing and created the Bass method.  Before then, even dentists did not have a great grasp on how to properly brush.

Sports Injuries, Mouthguards, and Your Child’s Oral Health

Does your child play sports?  If so, you are probably aware that there is a risk for mouth injuries in sports.  We hear so much about oral injuries as it relates to football, sometimes so much that it prevents us from seeing how prevalent it is in other sports. Many studies have shown the high levels of occurrence of oral injuries in basketball, skating, hockey, and gymnastics.
